About Bex

Bex has studied yoga at university level whilst also spending trillions of hours on a yoga mat. She has taught thousands of women and trained hundreds of teachers. In short, Yoga is her passion and her constant companion and most intimate friend. It has sustained her through the kaleidoscope of life. He has been her guide through grief, her therapy after a freak accident, an antidote to stress & anxiety as well as a precursor for love and adventure!

Her homeland is Scotland and she carries its rich wilderness and myths in her heart wherever she goes. She grew up with a passion for social and environmental justice which led to her gaining a MPhil graduate degree in Development Studies at Oxford University.

The results of this maverick position has led her to teach yoga in some unlikely places including Bali's largest prison, in refugee camps in Palestine, trafficked children in Nepal and sex workers and women branded as witches in Bengal and Jharkhand, India.

Bex has been a resident teacher at the Yoga Barn in Ubud Bali since 2009. This has afforded her with a wealth of experience. She teaches Hatha, Vinyasa, Power, Yin/ Yang, Yin, Yoga therapy, Restorative yoga, Acroyoga, Thai Massage as well as the art of teaching, yoga history, philosophy and mythology.

Her work combines the practice and movement of yoga with its deeper roots through intensive research and study of its rich history and philosophy, resulting in a unique and sophisticated approach to yoga that questions the mainstream narrative created by mass media and corporations and is of specific benefit to women's holistic health.

She has been guided by some fantastic yoga and menstruality teachers including Denise Payne, Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, Angela Farmer and Alexandra Pope.

Without of doubt the best course I could have booked onto. The course exceeded above and beyond my expectations. From what was offered on the course from the wise, wonderful women herself Bex. Not only did she offer insight to be curious about yoga but also on my own personal path. My passion for yoga has now hit a whole new level, and I am eager to continue learning.

I highly recommend booking onto a course with Bex, if you want to learn not only what yoga is but also what a journey of life means. Her dedication and passion to share her experiences, skills and knowledge was felt throughout the whole course. She offered so much insightful content to the whole course and made each and everyone on the course feel we had our purpose.

I came away from the 10 days making friends I would have never crossed passed with. So supportive and encouraging to believe in yourself and achieve your dreams. Bex will always be a big part of my growthing yoga journey and I can not wait to see what else she offers to join one day in the future. My yoga practice continues to teach me movement on my mat is the art of living.

Unforgettable 10 days. Humbling, revealing, bringing so much new knowledge but also curiosity to know even more. It opened my eyes to new perspectives and made me look at myself as a teacher with a fresh eye - improving my ways, admitting my mistakes.

So humbling. So inspiring. So motivating. It also reminded me and made it clearer than ever why I teach and what I want to teach ! It makes me even more excited to continue on this path and spread my love for yoga and it’s magic with the world.

Apart from that .. so much personal growth, so many emotions, so many revelations about myself. All the wonderful people that I met on this journey - only 10 days together but because of the depth of each day it made us feel like family. Supporting each other, being vulnerable together, growing and exploring.

And, one and only, Bex Tyrer with her knowledge, love for teaching, compassion, kindness, experience, wisdom and courage to ask all the right, sometimes very uncomfortable, questions. I am so deeply grateful for this time together. Thank you everyone! Thank you Bex. This was AWESOME!

I am still amazed by the experience I had while attending this course "the art of teaching", given by the talented and inspiring Bex Tyrer.

This course is so well organized and built, you can see the experience and the love that Bex put into it. I am so grateful for everything I learnt during those 10 days. Never could I have imagined that this course would bring me so much; in my practice, in the way I see teaching but also in my personal development.

Since the course ended, there's not one day when I don't think about something I've learnt or explored with Bex. It was a complete life changing experience. You explore yoga and yourself in so many different ways. Each day is more fulfilling than the other. It gave me the opportunity to truly think about what teaching is and what I want to be sharing with my students.

This is priceless for a brand new teacher and everything I needed after my first 200h teacher training. It builds self-confidence, self-awareness and motivation for your future as a teacher, and also as a practitioner. I can not recommend enough this experience and will always be grateful for it. I cant wait for the next training!

I recently joined the 10 day Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Programme 'The Art of Teaching – myth, magic and mastery' with Bex Tyrer.

Bex has sooo much experience teaching and she didn't just tell us what to do and what not to do. She had us embody the knowledge through playful games, clever exercises and of course practice, practice, practice. Bex has given me the most in-depth sessions about the history of yoga, considering many paths, aspects and myths and it has given me a strong understanding of history.

I fully enjoyed how the training was structured taking our amazing group on a journey into yoga but also into ourselves. If you're looking to advance your teaching skills I would really recommend this training.

I recently attended 10 days immersion/course The Art of Teaching: Myth, Magic & Mastery with one of my favourite teachers -@bextyreryoga at the Yoga Barn. This is such an experience which I can not forget myself. I was blown away by the deep knowledge and wisdom she shared in this training, which immensely help me to continue growing through my love of Yoga and its practices. Being a Balinese in the training and having the opportunity to expose to so much information that other Balinese people do not have a chance was privileged.I loved this course so much because it has not only given me tools to be a better yoga teacher, OMG there are life lessons in almost every conversation in the class, workshop, connection with nature, and how you can become the best version of yourself.

This course has encouraged me to be creative, vulnerable, strong, and definitely, one thing that stuck with me is to be "CURIOUS". I also met such amazing people in the course.Highly recommended for those of you a yoga teacher or even if you are not it is super worth it - in fact, I would love to take it again myself :)A massive thank you to this wonderful teacher Bex Tyrer.

I recently attended The Art of Teaching: Myth, Magic, & Mastery with Bex Tyrer. I spent much time researching teacher trainings, teachers, and studios to expand my knowledge. Bex was very responsive to my questions prior to my arrival and she offered me a significant sense of alignment even before we met.

It’s difficult to capture the essence of a training that offers so much. Bex has such a unique way of offering topics and subjects that can be challenging to address. Her approach in sharing perspectives from multiple lens for learning and applying was well designed and refreshing! She encouraged us to be curious and brave.

I arrived to her training expecting to refine my skills as a yoga teacher, and I left with SO much more. She asked us to share one key thing we walked away from… my response was “CONNECTION”. Connection to community. Connection to nature. Connection to yoga. Connection to myself. Connection to life. I wrote a book, scribbling as many notes as I could take during our time together, and yet, the lived experience of this course is what makes it so impactful.

Take a class…… take a course with Bex. She will blow your mind!

I was lucky enough to have participated in the course of The Art of Teaching Yoga led by Bex Tyrer who is highly recommended by a senior yoga teacher Emil Wendel. This is not only a chance for us to think why we teach yoga and what we want to achieve through teaching yoga, but to find who we are and how we want to live. As yoga is a way to approach our life, this course jumps right on the essence of it.

First of all, Bex is an exceptional teacher. Not only is she highly intelligent, Oxford educated with a Master's degree, but also her passion for teaching yoga, experiences of working diverse audiences and compassion to people make her a very unique and incredible human being. Therefore, this course is unforgettable. Her well-designed / thought-through course provides us with tons of opportunities to self-reflect and encourage us to meet ourselves again.

She intentionally creates safe place for us to be vulnerable and have us hear our own voices. Through these activities, we are starting to bond strong friendships with participants. It is a rear experience as an adult to form friendship with someone from completely different cultures, socio-economic background and age. What a treat to connect these beautiful souls!

Another note worthy aspect of the course is that she combined in-studio training and one day in nature. She managed to take us on an excursion to a waterfall. It made me deeply be in touch with the concept of oneness in real setting, as she describes "nature is our home." I strongly felt that we are a part of nature at the same time nature is within us. On practical side, we have chances to attend her public hatha, vinyasa, yin classes throughout 10 days training. This gave us a chance to observe how she demonstrates what we discussed during the class. As I have attended many yoga classes, it showed me a perspective to be a better teacher in action.

We deep dived in history of yoga, various paths of yoga, many approach towards body as well as practical teaching methods. Also, she supplements online follow up classes, books, podcasts stories, articles and videos that support our continuous learning and deepen the knowledge of topics. To sum up, this is a real treat for you to give yourself. If you have a chance to study with her, do not even think twice.
